About Us
Hello! My name is Mandy. I started Wild Acorn Artisan Soaps as a way to shift my creativity from my at-home baking business to something that was more in alignment with my personal goals and values. I have always had a desire to stay home with my children, and I have always loved being creative and learning how to make things myself. This business is allowing me to do both!
When I ran my baking business, I always had a guilty conscience to go along with it. I had fun creating and decorating baked goods, cookies and cakes, but I knew they were unhealthy and addictive for our bodies and I hated contributing to people's bad habits and addictions. I love this business because I can create so many helpful products and share them with others and feel good about it!
Whenever I see a fun new craft or idea, I want to try my hand at it. When I stumbled upon YouTube videos of people making their own soap, I was immediately drawn to it. I knew I just had to try it! For my first batch, I used lard I bought at the grocery store. It really grossed me out, haha! Plus it didn't smell nice, as I hadn't purchased any fragrances to put in it. I wasn't too in love with it, and I knew I could do better, so I began researching everything I could find about soap making.
After my first batch, I discovered the Soap Queen (Bramble Berry) on YouTube. I voraciously consumed every video and began trying her recipes. I was hooked! I continued my baking business for another eight months while practicing making soap, looking forward to the day I could fully switch over to soap making. When the day finally came, I dove in head first and haven't looked back!
There is so, so much to learn about soap making, and now I am also in the middle of learning all I can about business ownership and wearing all of the hats involved with it. I'm definitely in up to my eyeballs, and most days way over my head, but I have learned way too much and invested so much of myself into this business to ever look back! Each day I learn something new, and I am always working on improving some aspect of the business.
